now AOP for AOC
This year France has seen the migration from foodstuff AOC labelling to AOP (Appellation d’Origine Protégé). In the UK, the label is referred to as PDO (protected designation of origin) and first appeared in blue and yellow, alongside matching blue and yellow PGI (protected geographical indication) and later TSG (traditional speciality guaranteed) labels.
The new red logo marks a shift from a national scheme to European recognition and distinguishes it from the other two blue and yellow logos .
In practice, the products are the same, the accreditation procedures are still managed by the INAO in Paris, not a lot of change for French products, then. But you will see them more easily on supermarket shelves, where the red should stand out better.
